Our endorsements in the Democratic primary for Fairfax County Board of Supervisors

June 13, 2023

Featured in Greater Greater Washington:

Last summer, Dranesville supervisor John Foust announced that he’s stepping down, sparking a competitive primary to represent his sprawling district containing Great Falls, Herndon, and McLean. There are two Democrats running to replace him, and GGWash endorses Jimmy Bierman.

An attorney who grew up in McLean, Bierman has been involved in local politics for several years, most recently chairing the Fairfax County Police Civilian Review Panel, the oversight board for the county’s police department. As a young father under 40, Bierman understands the challenges people face when putting down roots in Fairfax County, especially in Dranesville, home to some of the county’s wealthiest and most expensive neighborhoods. In his questionnaire, he described his “all-of-the-above approach to increasing housing affordability,” from inclusionary zoning to redeveloping older commercial properties to expanding social housing, something with which Fairfax has a long history. He’s also willing to use the limited tools that supervisors have to address traffic safety, including road diets and installing speed cameras near schools.
